If your child loves drawing, painting and creating, why not book this fun series of children's art classes at the Art Gallery of New South Wales?

Each week for five weeks, under the guidance of an experienced art educator, we will focus on a different artwork in the Art Gallery’s collection and use a variety of art materials and techniques, with each child creating an original and unique artwork to take home.

The classes are fully supervised. All materials are provided.

  • Sydney Harbour

Inspired by the woodcuts of Australian artist Margaret Preston, you will learn a simple printmaking technique to create a print based on Sydney’s iconic harbour. After drawing directly on a sheet of polystyrene foam with a pencil, you will then print your image onto paper before adding some colour to complete your work.

    Sunday 19 May 2024 1.30–3pm

  • Looking at landscapes

After studying landscape paintings in the Art Gallery’s collection for inspiration, you will create a detailed drawing in soft pastel and charcoal. Experimenting with lines, shapes and colours, you will learn techniques for perspective, depth and composition.

    Sunday 26 May 2024 1.30–3pm

  • Plants and flowers

Explore the beauty of nature and create an imaginative artwork based on plants and flowers. With inspiration from works in the Art Gallery, you will design and construct a layered collage using some of the shapes, colours and textures found in the natural world.
