Symbolic species workshop activity at the Art Gallery of New South Wales

Participants in a workshop at the Art Gallery of New South Wales

Some people fear spiders but artist Louise Bourgeois celebrated them. She associated spiders and their skilful weaving techniques and protective strength with her beloved mother.

Join this kids workshop and create a sculpture of an animal that you think symbolises someone you love. Your animal could be real or imagined – you could even exaggerate or distort their body. Will you combine the body parts and features of the person you admire with those of the animal? The possibilities are endless.

Take part anytime between 11am and 3.30pm. Materials and instructions are provided. Suitable for all ages. Children under 12 must be supervised by an adult at all times.
