Experience a new performance work by creatives of Woolloomooloo, our neighbouring suburb in inner-city Sydney.

In Circular squares: walking on water, performers weave and circle through the Art Gallery of New South Wales’ north building, Naala Badu. Using contemporary, hip-hop and black dance styles, they explore both the joys and the challenges of inner-city life. Seeking connection from within the loneliness that can stem from high-density living, they look to forge relationships in the places we call home.

Performed above the once swampy reclaimed land called Wallamullah (meaning 'place of plenty' in the Sydney language and one of two words that Woolloomooloo is thought to be derived from), Circular squares: walking on water paints a vivid portrait of the interconnectedness of culture, identity and place.

Choreographed by Maya Sheridan, with sound and visual design by Rosano Snooze, the work features other members of the Woolloomooloo community.

After the performance, join the artists for a short DJ set by Rosano Snooze.

This event is part of the Art Gallery of New South Wales program Make it May.
