Online regional connect Virtual incursions for regional secondary students

Students at the Art Gallery of New South Wales

Bring the Art Gallery of New South Wales and our special exhibitions to your classroom with online regional connect.

Secondary visual arts students from regional, rural and remote schools in NSW are invited to join us online for a presentation dedicated to some of the Art Gallery’s exhibitions, including ARTEXPRESS, the Archibald Prize and our major summer shows.

During the one-hour live session held via Zoom, you’ll hear from Art Gallery staff about key artworks and themes from the exhibition currently on view. Students will learn about new artworks and artist practices, analysed through the frames and conceptual framework, and be inspired by the research, ideas and stories told within the exhibition.

This program is free and open to all regional, rural and remote schools in NSW.

What makes a good portrait? How do you ‘read’ a portrait? In this session, we unpack some of the portraits in the Archibald Prize 2024 exhibition and discuss the significance and history of the award in Australia. Drawing on some of the emerging themes within the exhibition, students learn to read a portrait and critically engage with the genre of portraiture and its enduring place within contemporary art.
