Warlimpirrnga Tjapaltjarri Untitled

acrylic on linen

183.2 x 244 cm

This painting depicts designs associated with the rock hole and swamp site of Mamultjulkulnga, on the western side of Wilkinkarra (Lake Mackay in Western Australia). During ancestral times, a large group of Tingari men travelled south from Mamultjulkulnga to Marawa and, after arriving at the site, passed beneath the earth’s surface and travelled underground. It is also said that a huge ancestral snake sleeps in the swamp at Marawa.
