About
"The first art work for this was an oil painting. It seemed to me a good group of shapes and forms. I redesigned it entirely for a screen print using mostly opaque colour with the line of figures dark against the light. Always I was interested first in the drawing or design, then the quality of the printing, next the colour harmony and finally the subject. Usually all these facets came together at the one time as I worked. I had not yet discovered how to arrive at transparencies".
Alan Sumner quoted in Roger Butler, 'Alan Sumner screenprints: A catalogue Raisonné', Eastgate Gallery, Melbourne, 1993
