About
In the 1970s Ken Unsworth began to make small-scale objects and maquettes that were used to test ideas for full-scale sculptures. 'Standoff II' 1979 is one of several works from this period involving the minimal combination of black rectangular prisms. Here, two steel forms are connected by string and balanced against a steel rod. Satisfying in its simplicity, this elegant formal proposition suggests themes of precarity, equilibrium and balance.
