Corvette O'Keeffe The art of persistence

Accomplishments are often born from the ashes of hardship and adversity, and we are reborn stronger on the other side. Based on the mythology of the phoenix, my body of work represents the persistence and determination required to overcome. Originating from my own full-scale drawings, the sculpture is inspired by Jeff Nishinaka’s paper sculptures. I have embellished the cut paper surface with burnt and etched statements from a range of well-known people such as Thomas Edison and Nelson Mandela who, despite their struggles, overcame and persisted through life’s challenges.
