Born with North Carolina macular dystrophy, a rare genetic condition, I’ve grown up exposed to eye tests and questions such as ‘how many fingers am I holding up?’ The judgement associated with questions like this has influenced my intention to make audiences question both what they are seeing and how they perceive visual impairments. I’ve taken a contemporary approach to photography by altering my photographs through deconstruction and collage. My body of work is a combination of etching, embossing, laser cutting and spray paint that accumulate into a layered piece with different levels.
