In Packing up, moving out I reflect on the transient nature of Bondi’s inhabitants, using moving boxes as my canvas to represent various perspectives of Campbell Parade’s well-known 1930s art deco apartment blocks. I find the colourful buildings fascinating and they have always seemed inseparable from the Bondi coastline. My work considers the probability that a new, younger generation of residents may not be able to live in Bondi as adults due to inflated property prices. Painted on an ephemeral, banal object like the moving box, Packing up, moving out is a work concerned with residential impermanence and unavoidable transience.
