Using the circular form as a representation of the Pacific Oyster Mortality Syndrome (POMS), my work depicts this disease as seen under a microscope. This virus devastated my father’s livelihood, destroying oyster crops and causing hardship for my family. My aim was to create a work that subtly paired the beauty of the structural form of the disease with its propensity to destroy. The photographs’ circular format portrays the cyclical nature of life, my father’s determination to persevere through this hardship, the oysters’ growth and survival within the river and their timeless connection with the tides.
