Riley Richardson Shipped: voyage through the colonies
Inspired by the relationship of Australian and European cultures, Shipped: voyage through the colonies explores the sharing and assimilation of history and landscape that have taken place within the relationships surrounding Australia’s environment and society. The repetition of the horse bust conveys a sense of overwhelming conformity brought to Australia upon settlement, which is then changed and morphed by the diversity of Australian flora and fauna. The display of the artwork is inspired by a historical tradition of showcasing the peculiarities of natural history. Shipped: voyage through the colonies shows how context and identity can change so that culture and landscape are one.
