India Gates Conscience vote
Exploring notions of marriage and commitment through the appropriation and re-contextualisation of three famous artworks, my work challenges art’s traditions, exploring modern ideas associated with marriage and technology by combining acrylic painting and digital media. Inspired by the current political debate surrounding ideas of the ‘conscience vote’ this work allows the audience to acknowledge what is becoming more universally acceptable. Reflecting our progress in time from a painting of the 15th century to a 21st-century photograph, my radical interpretation of these famous marriage portraits has highlighted contemporary arguments about gay marriage.
