Muyu Zhou The changing age, the changing Mao

Work by Muyu Zhou

The changing age, the changing Mao is a visual vocabulary to the changing representation of Chairman Mao during the last half-century. The range of media and techniques echo the complexity and diversity of values and beliefs towards Mao’s communist reign. The collage work of fragmented pieces of posters operate as a ‘map of life in 60s China’ to form the face of Mao reflecting upon his ‘all power’ to the country. However, as time passes and history melts and fades away, the watercolour painting shows Mao’s fading to colour as he is in our minds.
