I have chosen to draw this portrait of my friend because he encouraged me to always see the bright side of life. He said to me one day, ‘Howard, I am very sick and I have to go away for a while’. His facial expression along with his daunting news left me startled. His hidden smile told a different story and the slight sorrow in his eyes another. His misfortune revealed that he views life as a gift, not a grant and is impervious to time and adversity. His optimism paved the way for a change in my perspective of living.
