  • About

A large oval tureen mentioned in Kändler’s work records for August 1733 is said to have handles in the form of ‘Bocks Köpfe’ (rams’ heads) and presumably this refers to the present shape. The 1733 model had a knop with pierced ornament, whereas the crown knop on the present example is not pierced. This observation, together with the restrained use of gold and the quality of the painted decoration, suggest a later dating than might otherwise be supposed.
