About
In this photograph Barbara Tribe, aged around 19, balances precariously on rocks at Ben Buckler, Bondi Beach. Tribe was an avid beachgoer, and learnt to swim at an early age. Early works such as 'Lifesaver' 1930 and 'The spirit of the sea' 1933, now in the collection of the Art Gallery of New South Wales, reflect her experience of the ocean.
