About
This work was gifted to the Art Gallery by the artist Margaret Preston in 1948. Between 1927 and 1947 Preston travelled widely in the central and northern parts of Australia, searching out and studying firsthand the bark paintings and carvings of Aboriginal artists. These works were likely collected by Preston on either her 1940 or 1944 trip to Cloncurry in Queensland. 'Two ladies waiting' is an example of an unusual style of sandstone carving, originating near Boulia in central Queensland.
