About
This watercolour dates from Cook's visit to Spain in the 1930s, when he spent most of his time in Catalonia – visiting Lerida, Girona and the Costa Brava. In a catalogue tribute following the artist's death, a former student recalled his particular love of that country. Cook was curator at the Art Gallery of Western Australia from 1950–52 and art critic on Sydney's Daily Telegraph from 1954–58; but spent many years devoted to teaching at East Sydney Technical College (the National Art School) during the 1940s and 50s.
