The eight characters of the seal on the seal face is from the "Hou Han Shu/Zhong Chang Tong Zhuan [«后汉书.仲长统传»:又作诗二篇,以见其志。辞曰: 百虑何为,至要在我。寄愁天上,埋忧地下。叛散«五经»,灭弃«风»、«雅»。
The side inscriptions sugguested the engraver is Qing dyansty's painter, calligrapher and seal carver Ding Jing, 丁敬(1695-1765), allias is Dunding鈍丁. He is considered as the father of the "Zhe school“ of the seal art, one of the Xi Ling Eights,
