About
Mitelman's seemingly casual or ephemeral abstract mark-making aligns him with the work of the celebrated American artist Cy Twombly, whom he admires, but his work perhaps owes more to an early, arguably formative, admiration of the German/Swiss artist Paul Klee than anyone else. It also reflects a singular, obsessive, highly tactile and rarified sensibility that has not surprisingly found a remarkably diverse and extensive following amongst lovers and collectors of Australian art.
Mitelman has been the subject of several survey exhibitions and publications. He lives in Melbourne and exhibits nationally.
