About
The photograph in the portfolio titled 'The Byeway' was taken in Matthew Place, a small alley linking Upper Fort Street and Princes Street, two residential streets in The Rocks, Sydney. The alley and its surrounding streets were demolished after 1926 to make way for the southern approaches to the Harbour Bridge. Matthew Place is also the subject of an etching by Sydney Ure Smith. 1
