This is one of several portraits Douglas Dundas painted of his second wife, the artist Dorothy Thornhill, another of which, 'Dorothy No.1', is in the Art Gallery's collection.
Dundas and Thornhill met at the National Art School in Sydney where she, like Dundas, would become a respected teacher over many decades.
