Works in the collection
James Drinkwater is a painter, draughtsman and sculptor based in Newcastle. His practice is defined by lyrical abstraction exploring subjects ranging from the landscape to family, memory and everyday life. This drawing reveals the intuitive and expressive accretion of layers typical of his drawing and painting practice, as well as the artist’s strong graphic sensibility and facility for exploratory, expressive drawing. This drawing was made using charcoal, pastel and graphite over etching.
