Collection advanced search

The online database contains more than 35,000 works in the Art Gallery of NSW collection. The amount of information may vary considerably between records.

Results will show works that match all the terms entered. All searches ignore case.

Searches all text except for provenance, bibliography and exhibition details.

Filters results by artist’s country of origin or residence.

Note: multiple matches works that have multiple artists, both male and female.

Search for works by an artist from a particular indigenous language group.

Searches work titles (including alternate titles). Sensitive to words like a, the and of, and uses stricter matching (eg dog does not match dogs).

Examples

CE means Common Era and is the equivalent of AD. Entering a date only in the ‘from’ field will include works from that date until now. Entering a date only in the ‘to’ field will include works until that date. Entering dates in both ‘from’ and ‘to’ fields will include only works between those dates, inclusive.

Origin can include country, state, city, even suburb.

The best way to search by origin is to either:
