About
The group was originally modeled by Kändler in April 1745 for Augustus III’s consort Maria Josepha of Austria. The birds are perhaps based on a pet parrot which appears in a portrait of the Queen by Louis de Silvestre the younger (on the art market in 1992; also known in an engraving by Georg Friedrich Schmidt). The colouring of the plumage is similar but not identical.
