The Art Gallery of NSW has an extensive collection of artworks, many of which are reproduced in the collection area of this website. The collection includes Asian art, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art, Australian art, contemporary art, Western art and photography. The photography collection also includes a substantial number of historical images.

Images of artworks on this website may be used for private research and study and for research, study and other related exceptions as defined by section 40 of the Copyright Act 1968 (as amended) without applying for specific permission. All other uses of the content of this site require Gallery permission and permission of the copyright owner (where applicable).

Image reproduction service

The Gallery supplies photographic materials of works in the collection for a range of uses. Fees are structured on the use and market for the publication or product. Due to cultural issues, some works in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander collection or photographs of Indigenous ceremonies or people may not be available for reproduction.

Copyright

We can supply details of copyright holders where possible. It is the sole responsibility of the client to gain copyright permission to reproduce the image from the copyright holder of the works requested.

Publications, multimedia and products

For publications and products, we supply high-resolution 300dpi digital files on CD or via YouSendIt download. For multimedia, internet/intranet and email newsletters, we supply low-resolution 72dpi digital files.

Research, private study, lectures and presentations

For research or study purposes, we supply low-resolution 72dpi JPEG files. PowerPoint images are also available.

Material charges

Publication-quality digital image supplied on CD with RGB proof $150 plus GST.

Usage fees

For publications and products, a usage fee is charged, dependent on print run and the nature of the proposed market. Concessions may be available in certain situations. Please contact us for a quote.

Research

Additional research is charged at $85 per hour.

How to order an image

1. Download the appropriate application form above, complete and send it to us.
2. Your application will be confirmed, a quote provided and a tax invoice will be issued.
3. On receipt of payment, you will be advised of an estimated delivery date. Our standard processing time is 4–6 weeks.
4. On completion of the job, the material will be sent to you by Australia Post or via YouSendit download. Please note that all orders incur a postage and handling fee if sent by post.
