  • About

Kändler is recorded working on figures of musicians playing the lute and the viola da gamba in 1739 and 1741. Reinicke was also employed on a lute player in 1743. There seems to be no corresponding record of a cello player, but this figure may date from around the same period. The factory later went on to produce extensive orchestras of both human and monkey musicians. These included another cellist modelled perhaps by Kändler and Reinicke c1750–55 which forms part of the so-called ‘gallant orchestra’.
