About
This painted piano scroll represents Roy de Maistre’s colour translation of Haydn’s ‘Trio in B flat’. In a work over five metres long, de Maistre corresponds the movements of the musical score with the energised patterning of his chromatic musical scale. Painted in London in the 1930s, it attests to the enduring influence of colour music theories on de Maistre’s practice.
