About
Bold floral decoration in the style of botanical illustrations appears on Chelsea porcelain from c1755 and is often described as ‘of Hans Sloane type’. Besides bequeathing the collection which formed the core of the British Museum on its foundation in 1753, Sloane was also a physician and botanist who provided the land on which the Chelsea Physic Garden was laid out in the 1720s.
