About
Eva Kubbos was born in Lithuania and studied art from 1945 to 1950 at the Hochschule fur Angewandte Kunst, the College of Applied Art, in Berlin. She migrated to Australia in 1952 with her sister. After initial work in various manual industries, she returned to her art studies in 1956 at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) and later at the Swinburne Technical Art College, focussing on print making. In 1960 she moved to Sydney.
Hal Missingham took this photograph of Kubbos in the year she won the Trustees Watercolour Prize and the Pring Prize for her work "Sun and Earth No.3" 1970. This work was acquired by the Gallery in 1971. It was the first work by Kubbos to enter the collections of the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
