About
The Devi Mahatmya, sometimes translated as Glory of the Goddess, is a Hindu text about the Great Goddess as the supreme creator of the universe. This painting from India’s Punjab Hills shows the goddess sitting on a lotus floating above her lion vehicle. The gods, who had proved powerless against the demon Mahisha, offer her their gratitude for defeating demon.
