  • About

This is an inscribed sculpture of the Buddha from Mynamar. The inscription gives the date as 1926 (Burmese era 1288). The sculpture is in the form of Buddha images from the 18th and early 19th centuries, demonstrating that styles persisted for extended periods of time in Myanmar. The decoration on the robe and the shape of the face indicate that the piece was probably made in Myanmar for sale in the Shan States, a common practice.
