About
This marble torso of a man is carved in the round indicating that it may have been part of a figure of a deity that was being worshipped in a shrine. It is difficult to identify which deity due to the absence of attributes. The torso is stylistically simple and elegant. The gathers of the lower garment or dhoti are carefully delineated and a sacred thread is worn across the chest, indicating the Hindu origins of this figure. The body is otherwise bare except for a beautifully crafted beaded necklace with flower-shaped pendant that ornaments the upper body.
