  • About

    The drawing dates from the 1950s when Hilton’s work moved towards an informal abstraction. By the end of the decade he was determined to reinvent figuration, and his new work was deceptively childlike and awkward in appearance, while deft and elegant in its economy and clarity. Other drawings by Hilton in the collection date from the 60s and 70s.
