Michael Bennett Lot 19

Work by Michael Bennett

Influenced and inspired by the evolving and ever-increasing popularity of street art, my work represents the industrialism of our society. The repeated squares are a metaphor for the windows through which we view the modern world, where the power of large corporations has diminished identity and individuality.

I use spray paint, stencils and mixed media (wallpaper, shellac) to extend the tribute to the evolution of industrial society referred to in the title. The central panel appropriates a 1940s war poster to portray society, but with a confronting and cynical postmodern twist.
