A partial view of the faces of nine people

Interviewees from Warrioress

Warrioress is a captivating new documentary by Phoenix Eye Films that features the extraordinary personal stories of leading female martial artists: Laura Bui, Bianca Elmir, Kristina Mah, Anne Pang, Cynthia Rothrock, Shantelle Thompson, Rupinder Sandhu, Linda Ung and Yeye Zhou.

Through a series of candid interviews, these nine trailblazing women reflect on their roles as martial artists and advocates for women’s rights. As their stories interlace, Warrioress cleverly unveils the transformative power of this ancient practice throughout recent history.

Phoenix Eye Films is an independent film and art production house based in Western Sydney and Las Vegas. Phoenix Eye was founded by Maria Tran, award-winning Vietnamese–Australian actor, filmmaker, martial artist and creator of live performance work RITUAL.

RITUAL will be presented at the Art Gallery of New South Wales on Saturday 12 and Wednesday 16 August. Find out more about the performance

On Saturday 19 August, join the film’s director Maria Tran and artists from Warrioress for a half-hour Q&A after the screening.
