At this Art After Hours event, experience an evening of performances featuring artists BLECK, Morgan Hogg, Lay the Mystic and Paris Taia at the Art Gallery of New South Wales’ North Building. The artists will present works in development that explore various forms of movement, memory and storytelling, while traversing through different spaces in the North Building.

About the artists

BLECK is a multi-disciplinary Takatāpui artist reclaiming the self in a timescape of collapsing ecosystems, shifting truths, unrest and uprising. Seeking to reimagine the stolen and yet-to-be-found modes of knowing and being, their practice unfolds through voice work, object creation, world-building and beyond.

Morgan Hogg is a Cook Island–Australian emerging artist living and working on unceded Dharug and Gadigal lands. Through the perspective of her Kūki Airani heritage, Hogg utilises installation and performance work as visual representations of her own exploration of cultural displacement and identity. Making space within her practice to rely on oral exchange between her mother and family, Hogg continues the story of her ancestry by maintaining traditional practices within her works.

Lay the Mystic is a lyrical poet, musician and dedicated cubby-fort maker, based between Narrm and Gadigal countries. With a focus on exploring entanglements, his works centre on intimacy as both a lens through which to understand societal or cultural issues, and a landscape to enact change.

Paris Taia is a horticulturalist and artist interested in creating gardens. Her process of plant selection responds to stories of seed migration, cultural plant uses through time, and an understanding of the environmental conditions that are needed for species to thrive. References to plants that grow in the Pacific Islands, and the exploration of building materials such as Corolite blocks, provide an entry point for Taia to explore her own familial histories.
