Portraiture is about much more than faces. An artist needs to consider their subject’s surroundings, the lighting, proportions and the pose they want their sitter to strike.

In this insightful portrait-painting masterclass with Archibald Prize 2023 finalist Zoe Young, you will learn how to identify poses, tap into your emotions and find the poetry within the figure in front of you. Discover how to create a simple flesh palette focusing on tones (as opposed to colour mixing) and how to capture the essence of a figure from life.

Working with Billie-Rose, who has been Young's model and muse for 20 years, as your sitter, you will be inspired to work with the people in your own life, as subjects and inspiration.

This workshop is suitable for people with prior drawing and painting experience, wishing to extend their skills and practice.

Participants are required to supply their own materials for the workshop. A list of materials will be available with booking.
