Guided tour of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art in the Yiribana Gallery at the Art Gallery of New South Wales

To celebrate NAIDOC Week, we’re offering two tours during Art After Hours, focusing on photographic works from the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art collection on display in the Art Gallery of New South Wales’ two buildings.

At 5.30pm, meet in the Kaldor Hall for a tour in the South Building. At 7.30pm, join us in the Yiribana Gallery in the North Building.

As a historiographic medium – photography has been integral to the colonial project – yet over the last 45 years, portraiture and the moving image have become a vehicle for searing, intimate and defiant gestures of Indigenous re-authorship. Explore artworks currently on display to learn more about significant moments in time, acts of resistance and the ongoing role that photographic narratives play as repositories for political and cultural sovereignty.
