Presented by Sorrel Wilby, photographer, author and adventurer, Painting Australia takes us on an art tour of regional Australia. Each episode challenges three local artists to complete a work that interprets the landscape in just two days. We follow every brush stroke, the passion and frustration as the artists battle the difficulties of working out in the open, plein-air style. Wind, heat, cold and sand all add to the creative challenge. Each episode culminates in a final 'bush gallery' and critique. The series covers diverse places and unique landscapes across Australia. John R Walker goes to Braidwood, Jenny Sages to Byron Bay, Tom Risley to Cooktown, Christine Christophersen to Kakadu, Mandy Martin to the Simpson Desert, and John Wolseley to Bendigo.
Part painting, part off-road adventure tour, Painting Australia incorporates art, history, culture, literature, architecture, travel and exploration of remote regions of Australia.
