You can search or browse the entire Art Gallery of NSW collection online.

On display

About 5% of the collection is on display at the Gallery at any one time, either in our permanent galleries or temporary exhibitions.

The online collection database can tell what is on display and where to find it. However, there are sometimes last-minute changeovers so if you are visiting to view a particular work, we recommend contacting the Gallery first on 02 9225 1744 to check. See also opening hours.

Study room and archive

At the Gallery there are study collections that are open to the public by appointment. The study room houses works on paper – including prints, drawings, photographs and watercolours – from the collection, while the Gallery’s archive holds a significant number of artist archives. See study room and archives for more information, including opening hours, how to book and conditions of use.
