This study in ultramarine, cobalt and cerulean is essentially an azure composition.
It is tempered by alizarin crimson, Payne’s grey and burnt sienna, all tonally controlled with titanium white. (The headlights are cadmium yellow deep.)
All the pigments are used variously as underpainting, impasto and glazing on linen canvas to try to convey simply the beauty of a night.
