Stephanie Monteith Backyard

My partner and I have made a garden around our suburban home which consists predominantly of exotic native plants selected and arranged to create exciting textural and colour shifts. Nearly everything in the garden is arranged for the purpose of painting.

Backyard is part of a series of works that have been painted in this garden. The process of working en plein air has an intensity of focus quite different from painting in the studio. I have experimented with creating vistas exploring varied light effects by linking paintings from different viewpoints across the landscape.
