Yukultji Napangati Untitled

acrylic on linen

183 x 152.5 cm

Yukultji Napangati lives at Kiwirrkurra in the midst of the vast space of the Gibson Desert, Western Australia. Her painting looks at the land towards Wilkinkarra (Lake Mackay) and refers to the lines of sandhills that stretch to the horizon. There is a sense of the heat captured in the wavering lines and a vastness in the repetition. We see a vision of the land, but the artist is also recalling the epic journey of ancestral women as they made their way to Wilkinkarra.
