I relate strongly to Glenn Murcutt’s motto ‘touch the earth lightly’. With this statement as a foundation for all my work, I try to make paintings that are beautiful, interesting and different. I like to use Australian landforms, flora and fauna, some architectural references, traces of human habitation (ancient and modern), some political and social commentary, and see where it leads. Using these elements I like to set up rhythms and harmonies within the work – this might be through the use of colour, repetitive shapes or forms, angles and curves, or a combination of all these. The end result, I hope, is poetry.
