Shaelene Murray Blossom

stainless steel

85 x 65 x 60 cm

As a piece of figurative sculpture, Blossom speaks of history, experience, nostalgia, innocence, investment and potential. Each viewer will bring their own story to the reading of this piece. There are many layers of thought within Blossom’s construction. Referencing Charles Darwin, ‘blossom’ as noun, verb and title speaks of the natural world, the strongest surviving to flourish and continue. Another layer juxtaposes the strength of steel against the vulnerability and innocence of the child. A child encased in stainless steel is provocative. Does the steel protect, restrain or define the girl child?
