Anita Gerega Dingoes

acrylic on canvas

122 x 152 cm

An Australian cultural icon: embedded in our nation’s psyche, integral to our environment, respected and valued by Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander people, but often misrepresented and misunderstood by the broader community.

The purebred dingo is now facing extinction due to hybridisation, human mismanagement and eradication campaigns. The resultant explosion of feral pest populations with no predator to keep them in check is having devastating repercussions on Australia’s precious ecological balance.

Gazing into an uncertain future, watchful, wistful and guarded. My painting is a stylised representation of our enigmatic dingo, a colourful celebration of its unique cultural and environmental significance.
