Tom Carment Sydney structures

watercolour and pigment ink on paper

15.5 x 11 cm sheets; 100 x 86 cm framed

These 15 watercolours were painted at various locations around Sydney, and depict the built environment of my daily life. They are things that I pass regularly, on foot or bicycle: groupings of street furniture, weathered walls, facades, buildings, and laneways that appeal to me. Some have personal associations: the enclosure of Redleaf Pool, where I swim; Europa Cycle Shop, where I buy tyre tubes; the apartments above Elvis Pizza, where Mr Kirschenbaum, the tailor, used to work; the deco facade of Adereham Hall, where I had friends; the traffic lights on William Street, where I wait to cross.
