Painting to me is the struggle to represent what is true and what is beautiful. The two are not always mutually exclusive. Exaggeration and distorted perspective are abundant in my work and in my life generally. I’m not entirely comfortable flying through the air at 800kms an hour in a 430,000kg oversized tin can, flown by two hung-over pilots playing Angry Birds on their iPads. (I was in a bar one evening when I overheard a pilot drunkenly boasting of that feat to a friend). I’m certain that 'the fear’ must go through everyone’s head at least once.
